Lawn mowing, edging and property maintenance

Maintenance is a different kind of promise from tree work. A removal is one good day. Maintenance is turning up, week after week, when you said you would, which is a harder thing to do well and the reason customers who have been through two or three companies end up staying with one.

We run commercial equipment rather than homeowner machines, which matters on anything bigger than a small yard. Walk behind and stand on mowers cut a cleaner line and hold it on ground that is uneven or on a slope, and they do it in a fraction of the time. That means a large property does not turn into an all day job, and it means the finish looks the same in October as it did in May.

A visit is the whole thing, not just the grass. Mown, edged along the drive, the path and the beds, string trimmed where a mower cannot reach, blown off the hard surfaces, and the clippings dealt with. Weeds out of the beds and off the gravel. Shrubs and hedges cut back to their line when they need it rather than on a calendar. If we spot something starting, a limb over the roof, a hedge losing its shape, a bed going to blackberry, we tell you about it before it turns into a job.

We work on both residential and commercial property. On commercial sites we are used to working round parking, tenants and access windows, and to keeping a site looking right rather than just cut.

The one thing we are honest about is the small and scattered work. A crew and a trailer turning out a long way for a short visit does not work for either of us, so if you are outside the towns we cover, tell us where you are when you call and we will give you a straight answer rather than quoting and then getting unreliable about turning up. How often a property needs a visit changes through the year, and we would rather set it to what the grass is doing than sell you a fixed number. Between April and October the grass in this valley grows hard and most lawns want a regular weekly or fortnightly rhythm. Through the winter it slows right down and the visits become about leaves, edges, beds and cutting back rather than about mowing. We will tell you what your property actually needs across a year instead of quoting the same visit twelve months running.

Maintenance customers also get the benefit of having a tree crew already on the property. If a limb is growing over the roof, a hedge has outgrown its spot or something in the yard is starting to fail, we see it early and tell you while it is still small. That is nearly always the easiest moment to deal with anything, and it is the main practical reason to have one company doing both. Estimates are free and happen at the property.
