Sweet Home is about thirty miles east of Albany, up the South Santiam where the valley runs into the western slope of the Cascades. It is a timber town, and it still looks like one. Foster and Green Peter reservoirs sit just beyond it, the forest comes right down to the edge of the properties, and the conifers here are not ornamental planting. They are real timber, seventy, ninety, a hundred feet, growing on ground that runs uphill, and often standing far closer to a house than anybody would plant one today.

That makes Sweet Home our most technical patch. Tall conifers on a slope are the hardest thing in this trade to take down safely, because the fall zone is longer than it looks, the ground work is awkward and there is usually a building or a drive in the wrong place. We do them, and we do them from a bucket or off a line in sections rather than trying to fell something that size on a hillside.

Wind is the other constant. Exposed properties on this side of the valley take the weather first, and a good share of our Sweet Home calls come in the day after a blow. Limbs down, a tree across a drive, and something hung up in what is left of a crown. Call or text and we will tell you honestly how quickly we can get out there.

It is a longer drive than our home towns, so we are straight about scale. A single small job a long way out does not always make sense, and we will say so on the phone rather than quote it and then be unreliable about turning up. Several trees, a real removal, or storm work is exactly what the drive is for. Estimates are free and they happen at the property.

Because so much of the Sweet Home work is removals, stump grinding matters here more than most places. A conifer that size leaves a stump you cannot mow round, cannot plant into and cannot ignore, and we grind it as part of the same job rather than leaving you to find somebody else for it. Everything else we do is available too, from clearing and hauling through to fencing and lawn work.
